Simply soak the stakes in water for 1–2 hours to activate the porous clay, fill any standard wine or water bottle with water, screw the terracotta spike onto the bottle neck, flip upside down, and insert the spike 2–3 inches into the soil. The micro-pores in the terracotta regulate water release based on soil moisture — slow drip irrigation that prevents both overwatering and underwatering.
